There are plenty of players in this small tractor segment. John Deere, Kubota and New Holland are the three most popular manufacturers — all with decades of compact tractor experience. But, there also plenty of other players primed to eat up market share. Case IH, Cub Cadet Yanmar, KIOTI, McCormick, AGCO, Massey Ferguson, Farm Pro and Mahindra are all gunning for your business when it comes to tractors under 40 PTO hp. There are hundreds of model choices on the market and unique features galore. Here are some valuable brands that helped with our story, as well as their unique product offerings.
Cub Cadet Yanmar
“Our Sc2400 sub compact tractor offers several features no other manufacturer can deliver,” says Roger Gifford, compact product manager with Cub Cadet Yanmar. “The first is Shift-on-the-Go technology that eliminates the need to stop when shifting from high to low range, or vice versa. The Sc2400 also has two extra front-mounted headlights to provide additional illumination when working at dusk or dawn. A third unique feature is Positive Position Control on the three-point hitch. With other tractors, an attachment is either up or down — there is no in-between. With the Positive Position Control feature, mid-mount and rear attachments can be set to a specific height for more precise control.”
Bobcat
“Bobcat compact tractors have standard features that are often only found on premium models of other tractor brands,” says Bryan Zent, marketing manager at Bobcat. “These features provide performance, operator comfort and serviceability to contractors. These performance features include four-wheel drive for traveling over and working in rough terrain and a hydrostatic transmission for easy operation. Comfort features include a standard suspension seat, tilt steering [on most models] and an available deluxe suspension seat available on most models that provides the ultimate in adjustable comfort.”
KIOTI
“KIOTI tractors have always been a premium tractor product, purpose built as a true tractor,” says Ron Parrish, market development manager with KIOTI Tractor Division. “There is nothing light weight in a KIOTI tractor. Since the parent company manufactures all the major components from most of the engines to all transmissions and axles, KIOTI offers a four-year warranty that has no hour limitation. KIOTI also has many more standard features than most of the competition.”
Massey Ferguson
“We offer a 59-hp tractor with cab running a DynaQPS 12x12 power-shuttle transmission paired with a large displacement four-cylinder diesel engine,” says Thomas Beason, marketing product specialist with Massey Ferguson. “This transmission is ideal for heavy ground engaging work. It also gives you the convenience of push button up shifting and down shifting within your range for added agility when mowing, roading or doing loader work. Mechanical transmissions still perform heavy draft applications such as tillage better than their hydrostatic counterparts. This gives you big power while still maintaining a smaller footprint than utility class tractors, allowing you into some of those smaller jobsites.”
