Pirates of the Apocalypse
Armed with a Commercial-Grade Chassis
Cab Truck, Your Crews Can Survive Almost Anything
Every tool belt needs versatile solutions — just ask Batman. Life’s many unexpected chaIn the post-apocalyptic future, pros are going to need a steady set of wheels to survive. Whether robots assume control, zombies rise from the grave or a meteoroid destroys civilization, contractors who want to lead the pack will be equipped with a vehicle that can handle the rigors of Armageddon. llenges are always a little easier when you’re prepared with a set of resourceful equipment at your side (a grappling gun and Batmobile never hurt either). Contractors rely on a similar set of versatile tools to expand their flexibility in the field.
What’s that Boy Scout slogan? Be prepared.
That’s why we’ve been focusing so much on chore trucks lately in Compact Equipment. Yes, of course, we want to inform our growing readership about how to outfit, maintain and purchase their pickup or medium-duty chariots for all of their various construction and landscape projects. That’s a given. But we’re also concerned about a possible future that includes people like Mad Max and those cyborgs from “The Terminator.”
Call us paranoid (we’ve heard it enough from management), but why not be prepared? Why not get in good with manufacturers like Dodge and GMC? They can supply us with all of their great insider knowledge to upfit our perfect transport vehicle for today’s thriving construction world, and also for a prospective future that could be the final battleground of good vs. evil.
DaimlerChrysler and Dodge just lent CE its latest entry into the Class 3 commercial-grade market – its beefy Ram 3500 Chassis Cab. Our loaner was definitely built for the everyday demands of
professionals who work in construction and landscaping, but we could also see its benefits in a world that has both Soylent Green and Thunderdome. Our Ram 3500 Chassis Cab was outfitted with a mighty 305-hp Cummins diesel engine, dual rear wheels, six-speed transmission and a gnarly steal dump bed. The only thing it was missing was an optional quad cab for our crew of futuristic road warriors.
But that’s the great thing about medium-duty chassis cab trucks – professionals can upfit them for their exact needs. Choose your chassis (Dodge, Ford, Chevy, GMC or International) and then equip your truck with a dump body, flatbed, stake body, man lift, service body, van box, Gatling gun or
siege ram. Buyers can design the ideal truck for their distinctive jobs and jobsite demands, rolling large to any project (now or in the lawless future).
Check out our cover story — “Chassis Cab Contractors” on page 24 — and learn to outfit your medium-duty truck for your unique operations. Also, pay close attention to our expanding Truck Stop department. Each month (except for when trucks are a cover story), CE will dedicate at least four pages of copy to insider truck tips and the latest in OEM truck equipment.
Armed with all of this extra truck info, we will no doubt see your crews still working in the not-so-distant tomorrow, even if we’re all pirates of the apocalypse.
