A Behind-the-Scenes Look at Two
Premier Editions of Compact Equipment
The summer is the season for blockbuster productions, so the studios of Benjamin Media Inc. (our parent company) took this opportunity to make something epic. For the first month of the prime work season, we’re releasing two of our most jam-packed issues to date.
We open with a panoramic shot of Compact Equipment headquarters — a nondescript stucco building in the Ohio countryside. The muffled sounds of hammering, buzzsaws and loud music emanate from inside. The image fades into a montage of action scenes: furious typing; screaming boardroom meetings; printing presses firing out pristine stacks of magazines; and lots of group hugging.
That pretty much captures the behind-the-scenes making of our two epic summer editions. It’s a teaser — the trailer to Compact Equipment’s next big hits — our Attachment Buyer’s Guide and our blockbuster track loader review (which is in the June issue you’re holding right now). All it needs is a bombastic John Williams score, a few key explosions and someone suggesting Chinese takeout (cue the laugh track) and we’re sure to rake in the awards.
In our regular edition, we’ve rolled out the red carpet for eight different brands of compact track loaders. These little Sherman tanks roll onto jobsites like the mobile artillery of some sci-fi construction action flick, engineered just like your skid steers (including the same attachment plate), but with the added versatility of a dedicated track undercarriage. Since the summer is prime buying season, we captured the industry majors to categorize and classify each unique brand for your convenience, detailing product lines, specifications and even pricing. Read this grand saga on page 18.

Of course, the June journal you’re holding feels almost like a companion piece compared to our King Kong-size production called the Attachment Buyer’s Guide. In this case, epic not only refers to the elaborate construction of the project and its cast of a thousand characters, but also to the size of the vision and idea. Working with a considerable crew of industry insiders (attachment experts from Bobcat to Coneqtec) and the top brass at BMI studios (writers, editors, designers and circulation and marketing experts), we’ve documented the entire attachment industry in one ultimate guidebook.
The ABG tells the story of five major tool-carriers and all of their attachment options:
1) skid steers and track loaders; 2) mini excavators; 3) compact utility loaders; 4) compact tractors; and 5) utility vehicles. This special edition, editor’s cut, ultimate resource guide lists thousands of attachment makers, alongside hundreds of expert summaries for the major attachment categories (backhoes, box blades, breakers, brooms, brush cutters, buckets and those are just a few of the Bs).
With these two bigwigs backing your next construction production, the summer work season should be a monster hit. And as the credits roll at the end of the day, you can start that classic movie slow clap that will turn into a thunderous applause by the end of a successful season.
